Leeds
has a great range of family activities for all ages.
If you’re looking for accommodation you’ll
be pleasantly surprised by the vast number of hotels and
guest houses now offering double, triple and family rooms.
If in doubt stick to familiar brands that pride themselves
on accommodating families such as The Sleep Inn [map],
Vicar Lane, Leeds, and Novotel [map],
Whitehall Quay, Leeds, which offers some fantastic family
deals for people travelling with children. Novotel is
also centrally located just a few minutes from the city
centre and the perfect location from which to begin your
visit.
If you’re looking for something a little bit different,
whilst staying within a budget, try a country cottage
in the heart of The Dales. Places such as The Three
Faces Cottage offer classic Yorkshire accommodation
to families.
Family leisure is in abundance here with more than 20
council-run leisure centres offering a range of
activities from sun beds and badminton courts to
saunas and swimming pools.
Leeds has an Olympic sized swimming pool [map]
that’s definitely worth a visit. The pool is based
at Lisbon Street and has excellent swimming and leisure
facilities. There’s also a learner pool for those
not adventurous enough to brave a few lengths in the main
pool.
If your children are older and have a sense of adventure
take them to The
Works Skatepark based at Hunslet in the centre
of Leeds.
The Works Skatepark is split into beginners’ space
and an area for the more advanced, so there’s no
excuse for parents to sit on the sidelines! If the idea
of sliding around on in-lines fills you with dread why
not stay grounded with a visit to the café or lounge?
There’s also a shop from which to purchase your
essential skate paraphernalia.
If you have a head for heights a visit to a climbing centre
should be at the top of your list. The Leeds Wall [map]
is great fun for all the family, offering a range of climbing
courses whatever your ability. The Wall is located at
Gelderd, Leeds.
